PLANTATION OF RISE AND THE BEND OF THE RIVER

Location: Shanghai, China
Architect: Pavlo Peker
Competition project 2012

The ideology we presented was a generation of a new type of urban environment: we created topography by means of architecture. Every single point from where the new landmark could be seen would gain new significance becoming a place to observe something new, magnificent and tempting.

Placed within an urban landscape, the rice plantation, the most recognizable part of rural Chinese scenery, would create an effect of almost shocking suddenness and at the same time highlighted the unmistakably identify โ€œnationalityโ€ of the project.โ€จ
The new landmark would have served local communities as a new place where it would be a pleasure to live, to work, to socialize, to go to school and to spend time.
It was vitally important to anchor within educational and cultural institutions (art school, conservatory, concert hall, ballet school) where children could absorb artistic or other humanitarian education. Growing up within such environment, children would get used to new quality of lifestyle and social behavior.โ€จ

The new place would also positively change the transportation network of this district of Shanghai. A New algorithm of people moving was used, utilizing a relatively inexpensive cable car. The Cable car network would be flexible, easily upgraded, and in terms of cost of build and cost of use couldn’t be compared to underground rail or any other off-street transportation.
The Proximity of a major railway station created a better condition for commuting as well as business and leisure travel โ€“ both long distance and within the city. Automotive traffic would be localized on access roads and exits leading vehicles to be parked at a multi-story facility with easy access to the rest of the district.
